E-business service provider Digital Island Inc. (San Francisco) is teaming up with personalization software maker Digital Envoy Inc. (Atlanta) to get a significant leg up in terms of helping its customers deliver highly targeted content. The partnership will extend the ability of Digital Island's customers to target content to individual cities as well as countries or regions. The announcement is significant because content delivery providers, including Akamai Technologies Inc. (Cambridge, Mass.), Adero Inc. (Boston) and AT&T, have all been scrambling to deploy advanced targeting technology. Digital Envoy has applied for a patent on its NetAcuity technology, and Digital Island's effort will integrate NetAcuity with its own TraceWare technology, which can identify a user's country location. The city-specific technology will be deployed in the fourth quarter of this year.
